Von Wally Schmidt: In Neuaubing gibt es eine Architektur-Idee für Ground Zero, dem Areal in New York, auf dem das World Trade Center stand: Die Künstlerin Irms Duschl beteiligte sich am weltweiten Wettbewerb für ein neues Gebäude am Ort des Attentates vom 11. September 2001.
Der Vorschlag aus Neuaubing: ein sternförmiges, durchschimmerndes Gebäude. Erst- zeugt sie jetzt, wie sie sich das künftige Memorial in Manhattan vorgestellt hatte – in einer Ausstellung in ihrem Atelier an der Streitbergstraße.
Der riesige Glasstern ist buchstäblich der Star des Entwurfs: „Mein Modell für Ground Zero sollte die Flagge der USA symbolisieren – stars and stripes“, beschreibt die Neuaubingerin ihre Idee. Wie setzt man die Vision von Sternen und Streifen in Architektur um? Ein überdimensionaler, knapp 50 Meter hohes sternartiges Haus aus Glas schwebt von einer zentralen Stelle am Boden aus fast über dem gesamten Areal von Ground Zero. Statt vieler Sterne also nur einer in der Luft – und darunter als Kleid für den Boden 13 Meter breite Streifen in den Farben der amerikanischen Fahne: in weißem und rotem Marmor. Als Erinnerung an den Terroranschlag sollte in den Marmorplatten grob der Grundriss der beiden zerstörten Turme des World Trade Centers markiert sein…
